Conscious Parenting

The Conscious Parent

Picture
"The Conscious Parent" has been hailed by Ophra, Marianne Williamson and Eckhart Tolle, with the Dali Lama writing the preface. So I thought I should pay attention to what Dr. Shefali Tsabary suggests. What struck me immediately was the parrallel with my own work on self as I progressed along the path of parenting my children. Given I have unwittingly embodied the conscious path to parenting, with many imperfections, I can recommend this text over all other parenting 'manuals'.

Conscious Parenting - a new path to personal growth and connection with your children

The first thing you will note in this book is how Dr. Shefali refers most often to the relationship between you and your older children. However, the general theme of working on yourself in service to your personal growth, the ongoing connection with your child and the interconnectin with the mental health of your child is possible even before your child is born.
The first thing you will note in this book is how Dr. Shefali refers most often to the relationship between you and your older children. However, the general theme of working on yourself in service to your personal growth, the ongoing connection with your child and the interconnectin with the mental health of your child is possible even before your child is born.
Dr Shefali's approach differs from Connected parenting, made popular by Jennifer Kolari, which focuses on the way you connect with and sooth your child. As far as I can see connected parenting doesn't address the underlying issues you bring to the parenting relationship from your past family of origin.
Conscious parenting works on a deeply fundamental level in terms of how you are replaying, projecting, loosing your cool, and otherwise burdening your children, through both 'positive' and negative interactions. It is more global and will ultimately create growth in you as a human. For these reasons I prefer the elemental aspects of conscious parenting as a pathway to inner growth that will sculpt your ongoing relationship with all of your children and even your romantic partner.
