TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS

Psychologist and Psychotherapist
As both a psychologist and a psychotherapist Clarissa offers her clients the best of both therapeutic worlds; professional accreditation, post-graduate university training and medicare rebates with the deeper insights and potential of ongoing psychotherapy. Longer term work utilises the pearls of Gestalt Therapy effective for the healing of old wounds, developing confidence through self knowledge and finding greater meaning in life and relationships.

Psychologist-psychotherapists are fairly rare. Most therapists choose either path as the training and accreditation to do both is quite a commitment. Psychology follows the scientist-practitioner model using 'evidence-based' (well-researched) strategies to help people change un-productive thought and behavioural patterns. Whereas psychotherapy deals with the deeper levels of emotion that are often the underlying drivers of the incessant thoughts and unwanted behaviour of resistant anxiety, depression and other disorders.

Clarissa's life and work experience and the broad area's her study has covered mean her work can be of a great depth and breath. She has upheld an ongoing commitment to her own personal growth which enables a clean and clear view of her clients situations. When therapists neglect their own issues there is an increased chance of their clients being contaminated with unresolved issues that belong to the therapist, not them.  Clarissa is also passionate about neuroscience, so she can educate you on what your brains is contributing to your situation and also keep an eye out for signs you might have a bio-chemical imbalance that is exacerbating how you feel. Her passion is personal growth facilitated by achieving a balance in the neurological- physiological system.

Clarissa's training background in personal development has 'Lineage'. This means she has received training from those who were founders (or were immediately connected with the founders) of an origninal system or therapeutic framework. Her Gestalt Therapy trainer was Anna Bernet, who was trained by Jorge Rosner (a direct trainee of Fritz Perls). She has attended residential workshops (SAT 1 & 2) with Claudio Naranjo, who received the Enneagram teachings from Oscar Ichazo. She has familiarity with the diamond approach (A.H.Almass) which was also infused into the work with Anna Bernet who was directly trained by Almass. In 2013 she trained with Stan Taktin who has trained with many of the major names and experts in the psychotherapeutic world including Alan Schore and Dan Seigal. She has attended training with Alan Schore and further training in Infant Mental Health and parenting.

Training & Experience
Clarissa has extensive training in all aspects of psychology, human development, personal growth and couples therapy. She is registered as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia and can provide consultations that are subsidised by Medicare. Following her first undergraduate degree she initiated as a mature aged student, Clarissa completed post-graduate psychotherapy training with the Gestalt Institute Sydney. This involved an extensive 3 year experiential Diploma providing her with a solid grounding in psychotherapeutic methodology and practice and an in-depth knowledge of personality formation and disturbances. She then completed post-graduate honours graded psychology qualifications and diplomas in nutrition and natural medicine.

Since her first private practice was established in 1999 Clarissa has performed various roles as a counsellor and group facilitator within community and private organisations. Her most recent position was with Relationships Australia utilizing the post Milan Systemic framework for working with couples and families. Since then Clarissa has completed intensive training in the Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT) a cutting edge way to approach problems in relationships.
